Taupo to rotorua

Taupo to rotorua

After packing up camp it’s time to get back on the road after a busy weekend helping at a eventing show (horse event) and the day starts with a climb before getting to a high point and then it’s long  fun down hill  before the road flatings out with just a few up and downs to add to the fun

I’m using a mix of back roads and main roads today partly as I’m having a few issues with the trike and trailer (including the cheap tire (as the bike shop on taupo didn’t have any in the size I need) so might need a hand  or  a lift from some where along the way

There’s a big rain cloud over head playing with me and finally catching  me near the ohaaki geothermal power station (what with its large cooling tower looks a lot like a nuclear power plant) In places I pass flooding in paddocks from all the rain lately – at one point it really starts to hail so it’s a cold ride especially when my rain jacket starts leaking and letting the (cold) water in – as long as I keep riding I’m staying some what warm  : )

First passing through Broadlands before passing the turn off to some natural hot springs – I did think about stopped but in the end I decided to keep riding until I get to Reporoa and some hot food : )  after getting into Reporoa I warm up with some hot food before getting back on the road towards rotorua – maybe 10 km out of Reporoa I’m now on to a busy main road  starting a bit of climb as I start thinking about where I’m heading for the night as I have a few choices – in the end i end up staying the night at a friend’s place in rotorua after hitting a few issues with the bike and getting a lift from waiotapu to rotorua  with a friend (thanks Erik : ) as the hub bolt went again and it’s being a pain – that and the chain is trying to rub its best in to the frame as the chain tube is suffed  so it's time for a lift
it’s a long cold wait for my friend to come to pick me up from waiotapu Cafe /shop where after loading the trike and trailer in to his van/people mover and driving back to his place. I finally start to warm up – I think I let myself get a bit to cold today both on the bike and when waiting for the lift – after spending some time catching up with my friend and the rest of his family it was time to try to get some sleep

The day didn’t go to plan but I just made a few changes to things so I did most of the things I planned /wanted to happen – having back up plans and being flexible helps
